So, the family tree in LSUA has some interesting tidbits to it, if we dig through the books enough. Mainly in figuring out who is related to who. That's if this is a Family Tree. it could be a VFD Rank and File tree. I'm not entirely discounting that possibility. So let's take a look at the divisions, and see what's going on.
The first main division is the "G, H, I" branch. Now, how do we go about decoding it? We look at names in the books. G and I immediately bring to mind Gregor and Ike Anwhistle. So this may be the Anwhistle Branch of the Tree. If so, who is the H? Well, there are two H's listed in the SOUE. The first is Hal, the librarian at heimlich Hospital, and the second is Hector, he of the Self Sustaining Hot Air Mobile Home. Either is an interesting possibility, but Noah thinks it's a reference to Hector, and I think I agree with him, as he is more likely to be a VFD member (and alive for that matter).
Gregor Anwhistle, Hector and Ike Anwhistle. Hector may be an Anwhistle, but we have no proof one way or the other.
The second division is that of "J, K, and L." Immediately jumping to mind is Jacques, Kit and Lemony. This is supported by the SOUE calendar, which mentions Jacques and Kit being born on the same day, thus making them twins, which would explain the strange branching on the tree.
The third division is that of M, N, and O. The O very possibly standing for Olaf. Let's assume for a minute that it does. The M and the N, then, would be Olaf's siblings, possibly? The other two divisions (listed above) have siblings listed (assuming we've decoded them properly), so it's fair to assume that IF that's how it works, and IF the O is for Olaf, then M and N are his siblings.
So who are M and N? The M could be Uncle Monty, but I find that unlikely due to events in The Reptile Room. I can't, off the top of my head, think of any other names that begin with M.
The N could be Nero. I think it would be amusing to find out that Olaf and Nero are related. It would make sense. They are both mean, and self-centered, and not as good at their performance profession as they claim to be.
The only problem is that there's no proof that he was in VFD. In the letter he wrote in LSUA Pg 129-131, there is no reference to VFD, despite mentioning Ms. K, carrying two children by their ankles, and the orphans having a serious look on their face as though they were embarking on an important mission. It all reads like he has no idea what's going on. This all leads me to believe that he's just a dupe.
So whta about the other divisions?
The first being the "D"
If it's a family tree, that means that D is the parent of G, H and I. If it's a Rank and File tree, that means that D is the supervisor of G, H and I. I can't think of any names off the top of my head that begin with D except for the D mentioned in the VFD Social. That's Daniel Handler, but is he the D mentioned on the Family tree? can't say.
There is Duncan Quagmire, but he seems to be more of a neophyte then anything else, in the short time we got to know him. Quigley wasn't much more then a fresh initiate, and he's the same age as Duncan.
The next division is the E. Interestingly, This could be two people- Esmé, or Eleanora, if Eleanora is indeed in VFD. Currently, Eleanora is a front runner for the Woman With Hair But No Beard, and being a supervisor (and thus, higher up in the rank tree then Olaf) he would be afraid of them. If it IS a family tree though, then E would not be Eleanora, since I don't see her as Jacques, Kit and Lemony's mom.
Esmé, of course is a possibility, but a faint one. If she was, she would either be the Snicket mother, which we know she isn't, or she would be ranked above Olaf, but she obviously isn't that either.
And finally, the F.
Fiona, Fernald. Those are the only names I can think of. Though perhaps Captain Widdershins's first name begins with F. We know he's a VFDer, but we don't know for sure what his first name is.
