What Is With Olaf's Henchmen?
Well, Olaf's losing Henchman like flies, ain't he?
In Hostile Hospital, TLOTLLNAMNAW met his/her end in the fire. At the end of Carniverous Carnival, we read about Madame Lulu and the Bald man with the Big Nose falling into the lion pit and ending up in the belly of the beast.
It would seem that now is not a good time to be an Olaf henchman.
A young lady named Vitani writes in to let me know about a hypothesis in which a henchman dies in each book until the very end. For instance, in the next book, the Two Powder Faced Ladies may die. In the 11th book, the Hook Handed Man bites it. In the 12th, Esme Squalor meets an Unfortuante End, and that leaves the thirteenth book... Olaf standing alone against the Baudelaire's.
But wait, say the one hundred million billion skeptical souls out there who want to know... What abotu Kevin and Hugo and Collette? Won't they still be around?
That's entirely possible, but I think the slippery slope clue may take care of that directly. For the info on that, please see the question regarding the Slippery Slope Clue.
Except that the only problem with that is that the hook handed man, Fernald Widdershins, didn't die in TGG. We know he isn't completely evil, but he's still around. Maybe as a spy in Olaf's camp? (Thanks Rick)
