The Series of Unfortunate Events is a book series written by Lemony Snicket that follows the adventures and trials and tribulations of three children who were orphaned in a fire that destroyed their house and killed their parents. They were sent to live with a distant relative named Count Olaf.
Count Olaf spends all his time scheming to steal their fortune, and he will go to whatever means nessecary to get it. He is a master of disguise, and can blend into any society. There are eight books so far, in chronological order:
1. The Bad Beginning 2. The Reptile Room 3. The Wide WIndow 4. The Miserable Mill 5. The Austere Academy 6. The Ersatz Elevator 7. The Vile Village 8. The Hostile Hospital Book the Ninth: The Carniverous Carnival
There is a companion book called The Unauthorized Autobiography of Lemony Snicket. According to a source, there are also going to be two more Reference Books in the style of LSUA. The first is to be called the VFD Management Structure Leaflet, and the second is as yet untitled, but will fill in a bunch of loose ends, and will possibly be written by Count Olaf himself.
According to said source, the 12th book will be called The Grim Gameroom, and the 13th will be The Vicious Victory. No word has come to me about what the 10th or 11th will be called.
There are thirteen books planned in the series. How will it end? That's a very interesting question. So far, I have a few ideas, so let me share them with you.
1. Count Olaf is soundly defeated and/or killed, and his henchmen scattered or captured. The Baudelaires go live with a friendly relative hitherto unknown to us, and they all live happily ever after.
2. Lemony Snicket himself has been drawing himself closer and closer to the Baudelaires, and so it's possible that he will save them himself from Count Olaf at some point. Though since he is the chronicler of these events, and is always a step or two behind where the Baudelaires are at the time, that makes that a little difficult.
3. Count Olaf is soundly defeated, and the children either go to live with Lemony Snicket (an old friend of their family,) or are taken by VFD, and trained by them.
