It has been suggested to me that this series takes place in the thirties, because of all the black and white photos, as well as the way the people dress. However, if it does take place in the thirties, why the references to computers, and neurology and what's up with Hector's self sustaining hot air mobile home?
Also, where does the series take place? When I first read it, I thought it was probably somewhere in England, but then I realized that it wasn't. I thought maybe America, but I don't think that can be right either.
My answer to both of these is Everywhere, and Nowhere.
Uhhh, could you be a little more vague please?
Absolutely.
The series of Unfortunate Events Takes place in a time that never happened, in a place that never existed, and why is that?
All names have been changed to protect the innocent. The Baudelaires and Olaf aren't getting tied down to any one place, or any one time. I imagine this is so Snicket can work in any literary references he wants.
