What is with the Wart Faced Man?
A young lady named Christine brings this information to my attention:
TBB Chapter 13, page 158, and the quote is:
'The Baudelaire youngsters looked around and saw that not only had Count Olaf vanished, but his accomplices- the wart-faced man, the hook-handed man, the bald man with the long nose, the enormous person who looked like niether a man not a woman, and the two white-faced women-had vanished along with him.'
Whenever I can get my hands on a copy, I'll check the second book for any sign of him, but there isn't any that I can remember.
The man is first mentioned on page 134 (He adjusts the lights) and he does his evil deed on page 156.
'For as everyone laughed at Sunny's cry for cake, the important-looking man wiuth all the warts on his face was sneaking toward the controls for the lighting of the theater. Quick as a wink, the man flicked the main switch so that all the lights went off and everyone was standing in darkness.'
On page 47 where the main villains through the whole series are introduced, the wart-faced man isn't. It's probably not a very important thing to point out, but it could be a clue. "
So, the question sits... who is this Wart Faced man? I haven't seen him in any of the other books, so that immediately brings to mind two possible conclusions.

- He was supposed to be a henchman, but got lost in the shuffle. If this is true though, why wasn't he introduced with the rest of them back on page 47? Wes Coleford brings up the fact that WFM does make a reappearance later in the series. He writes that the WFM appears in TCC, possibly used by Olaf to incite the mob psychology to kill the Bauds.
- The other thought is a lot more off the wall, and more disturbing to contemplate. The Wart Faced man is Lemony Snicket. Which would explain anumber of things. Why we never see his face for example. It would explain the quote from one of the books about getting wart removal cream from your birthday. It would also explain why he wasn't intro'ed with the rest of Olaf's cronies. However, if he is Snicket, why would he let Olaf and Crew get away?
